Terms & Conditions

To rent a vehicle from Jrive, you must meet all of the following requirements at the time of pickup:

• —Be at least 21 years of age.
• —Hold a valid Jamaican driver’s licence or a recognised international driver’s licence. Licences must be current, unendorsed, and presented in original form at the time of pickup.
• —Be the same person who completed the booking and whose identification was submitted at the time of reservation.
• —Present a valid government-issued photo ID (national ID, passport, or driver’s licence) for identity verification purposes.

Jrive reserves the right to refuse rental to any individual who does not satisfy these requirements or who presents documentation that we reasonably believe to be fraudulent or invalid.

• —Booking confirmation: A booking is confirmed once you receive a written confirmation email containing your rental reference and agreement details. No binding reservation exists until such confirmation is issued.
• —Payment method: Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due in full in cash (JMD) at the time of vehicle pickup. We do not accept personal cheques.
• —Refundable security deposit: A security deposit of JMD $25,000 is required at pickup. This deposit is fully refundable upon return of the vehicle in satisfactory condition, subject to deductions for any damage, excessive cleaning requirements, fuel shortages, or late return charges.
• —Advance payments: Where an advance payment is made online to secure a booking, that payment is non-refundable unless the Renter cancels within the terms set out in our Cancellation Policy below, or Jrive cancels the booking.
• —General Consumption Tax (GCT): All quoted rental rates are subject to GCT at the prevailing Jamaican rate of 15%.

Only the Renter named on the rental agreement is authorised to operate the vehicle. Any additional drivers must be listed on the agreement before the rental commences and must meet the same eligibility requirements as the primary Renter.

Allowing any unauthorised person to operate the vehicle voids all insurance coverage and makes the Renter fully liable for any resulting damages, losses, penalties, or third-party claims.

• —The vehicle will be provided at a fuel level recorded on the rental agreement at the time of pickup.
• —The Renter agrees to return the vehicle at the same fuel level. Failure to do so will result in a refuelling charge.
• —A refuelling charge of JMD $190.00 per litre will be applied for any fuel shortfall and deducted from the security deposit.
• —If the vehicle is returned with more fuel than at pickup, no compensation is provided for the excess.

• —A grace period of 30 minutes past the scheduled return time is provided at no additional charge.
• —If the vehicle is returned more than 30 minutes past the agreed return time, an hourly rate will be charged for each hour or part thereof, calculated at the applicable daily rate divided by eight (8).
• —In the event of an emergency requiring an extension, the Renter must contact Jrive as soon as possible at 1 876 881 1299. Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and must be approved in writing by Jrive.
• —Returning the vehicle significantly late without prior authorisation may result in the matter being reported to the relevant authorities as an unauthorised retention of property.

The Renter accepts the vehicle in its recorded condition at pickup, as documented on the rental agreement including mileage, fuel level, and any noted pre-existing damage. It is the Renter’s responsibility to review and confirm this record before driving away.

• —The Renter is fully liable for all damage, loss, or theft occurring during the rental period, including accidental damage, vandalism, weather-related damage, tyre damage, and damage caused by driving on unsuitable surfaces.
• —Costs recoverable by Jrive include: repair or replacement expenses, towing and recovery charges, an administrative handling fee, and loss of use calculated at the daily rental rate for each day the vehicle is unavailable for rental during repair.
• —Where repair or replacement costs exceed the security deposit held, the Renter remains personally liable for the outstanding balance and agrees to settle it within 14 days of demand.
• —Any damage or incident must be reported to Jrive immediately. Failure to report an incident before returning the vehicle may result in additional penalties and forfeiture of the right to dispute damage claims.

All Jrive vehicles carry basic third-party liability insurance as required under the Jamaican Road Traffic Act. This coverage protects against claims made by third parties for bodily injury or property damage arising from an accident caused by the Renter.

The Renter is responsible for any excess, deductible, or costs not covered by the base insurance policy. Specifically:

• —Personal accident coverage for the Renter and passengers is not included unless separately arranged in writing prior to rental.
• —Comprehensive coverage (covering the Owner’s vehicle) may be available at an additional fee. Please enquire before pickup.
• —Insurance coverage is void if the rental vehicle is operated in violation of these Terms and Conditions, including but not limited to: operation by an unauthorised driver, use for prohibited purposes, or driving under the influence.

We strongly recommend that Renters carry their own comprehensive travel or personal motor insurance to cover gaps in the base policy.

The rental vehicle must not be used for any of the following:

• —Hire, reward, or any commercial transportation of passengers (for example as a taxi, rideshare, or charter vehicle).
• —Transport of illegal substances, contraband, or any materials prohibited by Jamaican law.
• —Off-road driving, use on unpaved tracks or roads not designed for standard passenger vehicles, or driving through flooded roads or waterways.
• —Towing any vehicle, trailer, boat, or load, unless expressly authorised in writing by Jrive.
• —Operation outside the island of Jamaica without prior written consent from Jrive.
• —Operation by any person under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, prescription medication impairing driving ability, or any other substance that impairs judgement or reaction time.
• —Racing, driver training, or use in any form of competitive motorsport event.

Violation of any prohibited use provision voids all insurance coverage and makes the Renter fully liable for all resulting costs, damages, fines, and third-party claims.

The vehicle must be returned in a reasonably clean condition, consistent with normal use. Excessive soiling, including heavy mud, beach sand, animal hair, food debris, or liquid spills requiring professional cleaning, will attract a detailing fee of JMD $15,000.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in all Jrive vehicles. Any vehicle returned with smoke odours, ash residue, or burns to interior surfaces will incur the full detailing fee plus the cost of any damaged upholstery or trim, which may significantly exceed the deposit.

The following policy applies to advance payments made at the time of online booking:

Jrive reserves the right to cancel any booking at its sole discretion due to vehicle unavailability, force majeure, severe weather, or safety concerns. In such cases, a full refund of any advance payments will be issued promptly.

In the event of a mechanical breakdown, accident, theft, or any incident involving the rental vehicle, the Renter must:

• —Contact Jrive immediately at 1 876 881 1299 or via WhatsApp before taking any further action.
• —Not abandon the vehicle and take reasonable steps to secure it where safely possible.
• —In the case of an accident involving another party, obtain their full name, licence plate, insurance details, and contact information. Notify the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) if required under the Road Traffic Act.
• —Not admit liability, make any promises, or settle any claims on behalf of Jrive without prior written authorisation.

Jrive will arrange roadside assistance where reasonably possible. Towing costs caused by negligence, misuse, or violation of these terms will be charged to the Renter.

To the fullest extent permitted by Jamaican law, Jrive shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of our vehicles or services, including but not limited to loss of income, business interruption, travel delays, or personal injury beyond what is covered under a valid insurance policy.

Our total maximum liability to the Renter in connection with any single rental shall not exceed the total amount paid by the Renter for that rental period.

Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our gross negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by Jamaican law.

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Jamaica. Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or in connection with this Agreement, including any question regarding its existence, validity, or termination, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jamaica.

Jrive reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Updated terms will be published on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. For existing bookings confirmed prior to any amendment, the terms in effect at the time of confirmation shall apply. Your continued use of our platform constitutes acceptance of any revised terms.
